The name of the subject Biology comes from Greek and derives from the Greek words bios - life, the living and logos - the doctrine. Biology means "the doctrine of life", i. e. here you finally learn something real for life or about life? For this reason, the orientation stage focuses on the three major topics of plant - animals - humans. Here you will find many links to your everyday life. In the middle school we dive into hidden worlds that can only be seen with the help of the microscope. From unicellular organisms to cell colonies, you will learn about the different levels of organization of animals and plants. The functioning of the human body is also examined in detail. The health of our body plays an important role in this process. You will also learn about the dangers of various addictive substances in this context.
If you are particularly interested in natural science subjects, you can choose ANT (Applied Natural Sciences) as your second differentiation subject and go into more depth. In the upper school you even have the possibility to choose biology as a profile subject in the natural science profile. Throughout all grades, we strive to work practically wherever possible, i. e. to observe, compare, microscope or experiment. In doing so, we can draw on an extensive collection and dispose of technically modern equipped rooms.
In addition, the work in the school garden and the bee colony, which belongs to the schoolʻs own bee colony, complements as closely as possible to nature and practice in all the topics that life has to offer us.
The project will involve students thinking about their favourite books when they were younger and thinking about which books interest them now, then sharing this information with students in the other country.
