We focus on the future and point out perspectives.
Designing school
We are active in design and there are no limits to the creativity of art.
Living diversity
Unsere Schule ist bunt und wir erleben und genießen dieses Facettenreichtum, denn es erweitert unseren Horizont.
Experiencing nature
Whether in the natural sciences, in our school beekeeping or on excursions, our school offers numerous opportunities to learn about nature and the environment.
Feeling togetherness
With our joint projects we ensure a positive feeling and create cohesion.
Dear readers We are very pleased that you are interested in Thor-Heyerdahl-Gymnasium and are visiting our homepage, which has recently been thoroughly redesigned and rebuilt. A look at our website will inform you not only about the latest events and experiences, but also makes it possible for you to get an overview of our education system and the lively school life at THG, especially the extensive range of extra-curricular clubs which are offered as part of the full-time school, including varied trips and exchange programs, as well as numerous school excursions.
Thor-Heyerdahl-Gymnasium is located directly beside the Heidenberger Teich in Mettenhof, on the western outskirts of Kiel. Since 2011/12 we are the only school in Kiel which offers not only the 8-year, but also the 9-year course of education in parallel (G8 and G9 respectively). This is because we understand that our children have their own individual personalities and progress at different speeds. Whether your child is encouraged and challenged in G9 or in the shortened form G8, one this is for certain: At Thor-Heyerdahl-Gymnasium, both ways lead to the Abitur. The primary aim of our Gymnasium is the best possible education of each student, as a foundation and requirement for the successful formation of further private and occupational development after the completion of school.
We are happy to address your suggestions and criticism, as your participation helps us to improve. If you are curious about the Gymnasium after reading this website, feel free to contact us at any time by e-mail, or call us to make an appointment by phone.
Kind regards, Torsten Stellmacher (headteacher)
UK - German Connection Project
The project will involve students thinking about their favourite books when they were younger and thinking about which books interest them now, then sharing this information with students in the other country.
